Black Achiever's Program

Sponsored by the James L. Camp, Jr. YMCA, this program
seeks to motivate young black people toward setting educational and
career goals. Youth are placed in a mentoring relationship with black adult
volunteers who have distinguished themselves in their respective
professions. In this way, black youth are provided role models and exposed
to careers in many different fields.

Colonial Virginia Council - Boy Scouts of America

strong moral values, as well as practical life skills. Offers in-school
programs for the handicapped. Focus on drug prevention and education.
Little League

Program provides children with an organized, supervised recreational
opportunity after school hours and strives to instill strong moral
values as well as the principles of teamwork. Teams are located in
Boykins, Courtland, Franklin, Holland, Ivor, and Windsor.

Make-A-Wish foundation of Eastern Virginia grants wishes to children between
2 1/2 and 18 years of age who have life-threatening or terminal illnessess.

the placement of older children, minority children and children with special

of homes. Designed to help low-income, elderly and disabled people maintain
and fix-up their homes.
Consumer Financial Counseling

Service offered through Family Services of Tidewater
to individuals who, due to loss of a job, illness or poor financial planning,
are overwhelmed by debt. Provides budget counseling, debt management assistance
and creditor assistance to help those in crisis to learn the basics of
fiscal management.
Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia

Provides leadership in finding temporary and permanent
solutions to the problems of diminished health, missed education and lost
human potential induced by hunger and poverty in this community. Supplemental
and emergency foods are provided to assure food security to the neediest
in the area.
Franklin Charity Fund

Provides traveler's aid assistance, fuel assistance
and medical funding for those in need. Also funding for indigents with
special needs.
Franklin Cooperative Ministries

Seeks to support people in times of distress but
not to foster dependency. It offers four services to the Franklin-Southampton
and Isle of Wight areas:
1. clothing closet at its Middle Street
location
2. food pantry
3. meal voucher plan for the needy in
our community
4. emergency dental program.
Genieve Shelter

Serves victims of domestic violence through a shelter
for abused women and their children, educational outreach, support groups
and legal advocacy. Other services include a hotline for women in crisis
situations. Located in Suffolk, the shelter serves Franklin, Southampton
County, Suffolk, Surry and Isle of Wight.
Habitat for Humanity

Serving the Franklin-Southampton community, Habitat is
an ecumenical ministry which seeks to eliminate sub-standard housing through
the use of volunteer labor and the donation of funds, materials, expertise
and land.

Southampton County, including: fuel assistance, medical emergency assistance
and helping in meeting basic human needs such as food, clothing, and shelter.

V.L.A.S. provides legal assistance to those not able to
afford a private attorney. Assistance focuses on civil cases in the housing,
government benefits, consumer and domestic areas for those living below
125% of the federal poverty level. V.L.A.S. does not handle criminal cases.

the A.R.C. is a multi-service organization with four basic programs:

which supply blood to Southampton

relatives in the military in case of
emergency
4. Provides relief services for disaster
victims
Edmarc Hospice for Children

The mission of Edmarc Hospice for Children is to
ease the trauma of a child's illness or death and to reduce the disabling
effects of pediatric illness, loss and bereavement on families. We recognize
that just as a sick child bears a special burden, so do the parents and
siblings. So we are dedicated to helping every member of the family through
home care, hospice and bereavement support.
Mental Retardation Services of Tidewater

Assists mentally retarded individuals and their
families. Offers help in obtaining services in the community and provides
organized activites and therapy in an effort to help individuals with mental
disabilities function more independantly.
Society for the Aid of Sickle Cell Anemia

Concerned with the problems facing the family stricken
with sickle cell disease. Programs provided include community education,
screening, counseling and a support group meeting at Southampton Memorial
Hospital.

High Street Seniors

Weekly program provides fellowship, health, recreational
and educational programs to adults in the Franklin community who are over
the age of 55.
Lifeline

A program administered through Southampton Memorial
Hospital that provides equipment for individuals who live alone, are disabled
or handicapped, and have ongoing medical conditions. Lifeline enables older
citizens to live independently with the assurance of having medical assistance
at the touch of a button.

and outreach to seniors. Organized programs provide older adults with the
opportuniy to keep their minds and bodies active and healthy.
